Responsibly storing hazardous chemicals or materials during a flood event
Lake Washington and the Puget Sound are points of regional pride and work is constantly being done to preserve their natural beauty. What will they look like after a major flood of the Green River Valley? For businesses that call the valley home, it is important to take responsibility for the safe storage of chemicals and hazardous materials to avoid ruining these bodies of water.
A major aspect of an emergency plan should be the safe handling and storage of hazardous materials. By making plans for collection and proper storage of these materials, businesses will save themselves the expense of cleaning up, as well as save the environment from the unintentional exposure.
Easy solution: Designate an elevated or waterproof storage area within the property and begin storing hazardous materials and chemicals in an organized fashion in the designated area.
LCNW has created a custom solution to store our chemicals. The Chemical Hazard Emergency Storage and Transport (CHEST) unit is a spill-proof platform that can be quickly elevated with a forklift and easily stored in our racking system. This is the first task in our flood preparedness action plan, and by storing our chemicals on the platform at all times, it will be the quickest task as well.
